Chanel’s Chance line has had its fair share of best sellers, and among them is Eau Tendre, which comes in both Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum versions. But which one should you choose? What are the differences? Which one smells better? In this article, I’ll give you my take on the topic.
Tale of the Tape: Eau Tendre EDP vs EDT
Chance Eau Tendre EDP
Chance Eau Tendre EDT
- Notes include: jasmine, grapefruit, hyacinth, musk, quince, iris, musk, cedar, amber
Opening
The Eau Tendre EDP starts off with a quick blast of citrus fruits, specifically grapefruit and quince, just like the Eau de Toilette. On my skin, the shift to the floral notes happens rather quickly. Jasmine and rose come forward, accompanied by the usual musky base. However, the musk in this version is not as noticeable. Initially, jasmine takes the lead, followed by a stronger presence of rose. The citrus notes don’t completely fade away, but they take a backseat. There also seems to be a hint of cedar, similar to the EDT version.
On the other hand, the EDT opens with prominent citrus notes that stick around longer compared to the EDP. This time, they are joined by a more noticeable cedar note, giving it a fresh aroma. The floral notes in the EDT are hyacinth, iris, and jasmine. Hyacinth dominates, while the other two split their duties. The EDT has a fresher and powdery vibe.
Which one is better? Although there is a lot of overlap, making them extremely similar at times, I personally prefer the EDT’s ingredients over the EDP.
Winner: EDT
Projection
You might expect the EDP to have a greater sillage due to its higher concentration levels, but I haven’t noticed a significant difference. Testing both fragrances on my skin and clothes, they seem to have roughly the same projection.
Edge: Push
Longevity
The longevity of both fragrances is also quite similar. On most days, they last between 6 to 8 hours on the skin. However, there have been occasions where one or the other has faded before the 7-hour mark. Comparing the two, they are equal in terms of longevity.
Edge: Push
Versatility
Both Eau Tendre versions are well-suited for the spring and summer months. They are best worn in moderate to warm temperatures. In terms of versatility, they can easily be used as daily wear perfumes for various occasions, whether it’s the office or class. However, neither is particularly suitable for a night out. There isn’t a significant difference in their use cases.
Edge: Push
Overall Scent
This is one of those comparisons that can be challenging since the fragrances are so intertwined with their ingredients. The overall performance, use cases, and aroma are essentially the same in many ways. The key differences lie in the floral notes and the use of citrus in the composition, depending on your personal preferences.
If you prefer a more floral fragrance with rose and jasmine, less citrus, and a stripped-down cedar note, then the Eau de Parfum is the better choice for you.
On the other hand, if you prefer a fresher scent with more citrus and powdery hints from hyacinth and iris, then the EDT is the way to go.
Personally, I slightly prefer the EDT because of these reasons. The performance is equal to the EDP, and it ultimately gets the overall win from me.
Winner: Eau Tendre EDT
In conclusion, both Chanel Chance Eau Tendre EDP and EDT have their charms, but if I had to choose, I would go for the EDT. It offers a fresh and vibrant scent that I find more appealing. However, it ultimately comes down to your personal preferences. Give them both a try and decide which one suits you best!
